This is a good question, the answer to which depends on more than a few factors. First, understand that membership is exclusive, and not everyone who applies will have the opportunity to become a member. Secondly, not everyone who applies may find Sic Semper Tyrannis as fun and exciting as we do. We understand that there are different motivations for playing Ultima Online and as a guild, we appreciate the diversity that those motivations bring. That being said, let us talk a moment about some of the things we look for in prospective candidates:
Sic Semper Tyrannis was designed by a group of friends in response to our constant struggles within Britannia. Too many times as new players we were besieged by Player Killers, Thieves and Con Artists. It was our hope to create a safe haven and support network for our small group. We look for people who understand what it means to be dependable, honest and trustworthy. But first and foremost, we are here to have fun.
In the end, it is up to you to decide whether or not our guild suits your needs. The fact that you have found our page suggests that you have either been referred, (meaning that you have impressed a current member) or have stumbled upon us in your search for a guild.
There is a process involved in becoming a member of Sic Semper Tyrannis. This process was developed with the experience of our years as a guild and our concern with finding people who will fit into our small family. It may seem daunting, but that is by design. We are looking for certain kinds of people, if you think you are one of those people, then please, read on. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sic Semper Tyrannis Membership Process As outlined by Vice Guildmaster Enyao
So you want to become a member of Sic Semper Tyrannis? Great, we would love to have you, provided you meet a few requirements. First of all, it is not a process that happens overnight. It takes time and persistence to obtain full membership and be accepted fully into our family. The steps below outline the process. There will be some exceptions at the discretion of the Guild Leadership. For example say a potential member had been in the realm for quite sometime and was already self-sufficient? In that case, the person would not be expected to go through our training process, and could test out. It may be someone who has been a friend of the guild, who finally decides to join us, at which point, Aleph may decide to bring them in as a full member. With this said, lets look at the process:
All potential members MUST meet with the guild recruiter. The guild recruiter will be responsible for explaining the basic guild concept of family. The guild recruiter may also make a recommendation to the guild leadership that the person in question not be considered for guild membership at that time based on criteria that will be outlined for that position.
After meeting with the guild recruiter, the potential member must be sponsored into the guild by a full member in good standing. The guild recruiter will find a sponsor if one is needed, by getting the potential member involved with a guild event such as a hunt or social. If a member decides the potential member is someone that they would like to see granted membership, then they will notify the guild recruiter of their intent.
NOTE: Guild nights are for members and initiates only, potential members should not be invited to this event.
Once notified, potentials will become initiates on our initiate stone, and will have the title of Initiate. At that time, the sponsor is required to inform the initiate of the guild webtome (www.veovix.com/SST/index1.html), of the guild communications page (give the initiate Enyao's pigeon number), the guild irc channel, and make sure they know they are required to read the guild Charter, this document, and the training document. All initiates must meet with one of the guild trainers. Initiates will be required to pass a test to prove they are self-sufficient, know the rules of etiquette of the realm, and have read and understand the guild Charter.
All initiates will be required to meet with 5 secret members known only to the Guildmaster and Vice Guildmaster. Each of those 5 secret members will notify the Vice Guildmaster of any initiates that they have met. This encourages initiates to meet as many of the members as they can, and to go to guild functions.
All initiates will be required to attend two months worth of meetings. This means that a person will remain an initiate for at least 2 months, and longer if they do not meet the requirements. This should provide ample time for us to get to know an initiate.
Initiates will be brought onto the full Members stone in a ceremony to be held once a month.
· Anyone quitting the guild during the initiate process will not be asked back except under the discretion of the Guildmaster.
· Any member may file a request that an initiate not be allowed full membership. To do so they must contact the Vice Guildmaster who will then take the matter to the Guildmaster.
· A group of 8 members may block the membership of an initiate by notifying the Vice Guildmaster via email. (Multiple characters count as one member) The Guildmaster may for any reason refuse membership to an initiate.
· Any initiate, who does not meet the criteria within 4 months, can be brought to full membership by petition of 10 Members, or will be dropped from the stone at that point.
· A petition of 10 members may be submitted to earn an initiate full membership.
· All petitions shall be submitted to the Vice Guildmaster to be presented to the Guildmaster.
